Hydroplaning

In order to maintain traction on wet roads, the vehicle’s tires push any standing water away in order to achieve contact with the pavement. If the vehicle is travelling to fast, the water cannot be pushed away and the vehicle ends up sliding on the surface of the water. This sliding is called hydroplaning. Drivers have no steering control over a hydroplaning vehicle, as the tires are not coming into contact with the road directly.
